Hyperliquid Review 2026: Perps, Spot, Fees and Margin Risk
DN platform review · Updated 11 October 2026
What Matters
Hyperliquid is a purpose-built L1 with perpetual and spot order books in HyperCore and a general-purpose HyperEVM. The current base validator-operated perp schedule is 0.015% maker and 0.045% taker. Product, tier and market-specific rules can change the amount paid.
The architecture is broader than perpetuals
The official overview distinguishes HyperCore's trading infrastructure from HyperEVM's smart-contract environment. Hyperliquid supports spot as well as perpetuals. This corrects the older review's description of a perps-only venue.
Transparent onchain activity is useful for inspection, but does not establish that every order fills at a favorable price or that every dependency will remain available. This review does not independently reproduce the platform's advertised throughput or certify its security.
Use the fee schedule for the product you trade
| Product | Maker | Taker |
|---|---|---|
| Validator-operated perps | 0.015% | 0.045% |
| Spot base schedule | 0.040% | 0.070% |
Rolling volume tiers, staking, quote-asset treatment and other settings can alter fees. HIP-3 deployer markets have additional fee mechanics. Do not apply the base perp rate to every product or interface. The tool below models the undiscounted validator-operated perp rates only.
Cross margin is shared exposure
Cross margin is the documented default; isolated margin is also supported, and some assets have stricter isolated rules. Shared collateral can improve utilization, but a loss on one cross position can consume collateral supporting others.
HIP-3 cross-margin behavior also depends on account abstraction and collateral. A trader must understand the scope of the shared margin account rather than assuming that every position is isolated or that cross margin automatically lowers risk.
Funding and the route into the venue
For the documented crypto perp mechanism, funding is paid hourly; the formula is expressed on an eight-hour basis and applied proportionately. It changes with the market and can be a payment or receipt depending on position side.
The official onboarding guide lists wallet and email access and several deposit routes. Onboarding can carry network or conversion costs separate from trading. Check the route and displayed withdrawal conditions instead of assuming that gasless order submission makes the whole journey free.
Who should consider it?
Potential fit: eligible, experienced traders comparing order-book execution, several trading products and programmatic workflows. Check the intended market's available liquidity, permissions and risk settings rather than using the platform's overall reputation as a substitute.
Less suitable: users unfamiliar with leveraged loss, signing permissions or collateral management, and anyone who needs guaranteed availability or expects derivatives to behave like an insured bank balance.
Risks beyond the headline fee
Inspect validator and network dependencies, bridge and contract exposure, oracle behavior, liquidation and deleveraging rules, interface security and key management. Self-custody does not eliminate operational or financial loss. Historical performance should be supported by dated incident records, not an assertion that the system always handles volatility without failures.
A useful first comparison specifies asset, size, order style, margin mode, account tier and time. Smaller explicit fees can still coincide with worse total economics when funding, spreads or price impact dominate.
The Signal
Hyperliquid's breadth is useful only if the trader understands which product and margin regime they are using. A validator-operated crypto perp, a HIP-3 market and a spot order should not inherit one undifferentiated fee or risk description.
DN Hyperliquid Perp Cost Explorer
Estimate costs for one entry and one exit at the same notional. This is a scenario calculator, not a quote or prediction. Fee snapshot: 11 October 2026.
Defaults are illustrative. Positive funding means you pay; negative means you receive. Normalize your market's rate to eight hours. Include spread and slippage once in the combined input. HIP-3, spot, builder charges, tier discounts and transfer costs are not automatically modeled.
Enter valid numbers within the stated ranges. No estimate is available for these inputs.
This does not estimate liquidation, collateral needs, PnL or realized execution. A negative modeled total means a net receipt under your assumptions, not guaranteed profit.
DN Evidence Block
Evidence period: public documentation checked 11 October 2026. Method: primary-source review of product structure and fee rules, with a reproducible scenario calculator. No funded trading, withdrawal-speed or stress-performance test was performed for this update.
Figures are dated documentation snapshots. The tool holds notional and assumptions constant; actual fills, changing funding, account settings and market conditions can produce different results. Any comparative ranking belongs to the separate DN Perpetual DEX Index and its published methodology.
DN Alpha Thesis
For this review, DN's decision rule is to choose a venue by the exact product and constraints of the trade: size, execution model, collateral, permissions and total cost. A prominent brand or one attractive fee row cannot answer all of those questions.

Frequently asked questions
Does Hyperliquid support spot trading?
Yes. Its official overview describes spot and perpetual order books in HyperCore.
What are the base perp fees?
The current undiscounted validator-operated perp schedule is 0.015% maker and 0.045% taker. Tiers and market-specific settings can change fees.
Does self-custody remove all risk?
No. Key, protocol, bridge, network, execution and leveraged-position risks still require assessment.
